Issued by Duncan Smart, Holmer & Shelwick Footpath Officer, 6th September 2021
Since the last report things have changed at footpaths HO1 and HO3.
Footpath HO3 gateway on the A49 has been cleared and at the gateway near Coldwells pond (Thank you Balfour Beatty).
Access to The Point from footpath HO1 at the Roman Road was almost complete. The path had been trimmed/strimmed from the Roman Road to the Ayles Brook bridge. However, Bloor Homes do not wish this path to be re-opened yet and have insisted that the Temporary Footpath Closure remains in place which seems to be contrary to what we were advised last month. So, rather a waste of a day clearing the path!
Ongoing development of The Point is preventing further re-opening of HO1 at present but access to the fields and the rest of HO1 was made possible by Bloor Homes using a temporary stile at the end of Avocet Road. It should be made clear that this stile is not on a public right of way and use of it will be at your own risk. One local resident recently had an unfortunate fall from the structure in the first picture below and Bloor Homes have agreed to make changes to the stile. Unfortunately, the next change (2nd picture below) was even more difficult to use.
Hopefully a satisfactory design will be reached before the next report.
On 1st September further strimming work was carried out along Bridleway HO18 from the Lugg Bridge end up to the metal gate at SO 533421
The remainder of the HO18 Bridleway will, hopefully, be tackled in October. Holidays will make it difficult to do much before then.
