Footpath Report – 1st August 2021

Issued by Duncan Smart, Holmer & Shelwick Footpath Officer, 1st August 2021

Saturday 31st July start of clearance of Bridleway HO18 using the strimmer and hedge cutter. Unfortunately, that came to an unplanned end when I discovered that the petrol cap on the strimmer had disappeared without trace into the undergrowth and petrol was leaking onto the ground.

Still no response from Herefordshire Council/Balfour Beatty about removing the Temporary Closure notices on Footpaths HO3 (from the Coldwells Road pond to the A49) and part of HO1 (from the Roman Road across the Ayles Brook into the Hereford Point development). Once I have confirmation that the paths are safe to use (especially over Ayles Brook on path HO1) I will clear the paths for use.

Please report any problems with the Holmer & Shelwick public footpaths (as identified by finger posts and yellow waymarks) through the website or to the Parish Clerk. This includes stiles, bridges/ditch crossings, overhanging vegetation etc. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done about muddy patches after heavy rain or floods. I am walking the Herefordshire Trail during August and regret that I will not be doing much path clearance during the month.
